Last-minute meeting leads to Lincecum deal

Tim Lincecum and the Giants have forged a two-year deal that will pay him $23 million, sources have told The Chronicle. The agreement came just before arbitration was to begin today, when the two camps' representatives stepped out of the hearing room in Florida to try to reach a deal.

The 25-year-old, two-time Cy Young Award winner will receive $8 million in salary and a $1 million bonus this year and $13 million in salary and a $1 million next year. The bonus details differ slightly from what The Chronicle reported earlier this morning.

Lincecum is not expected to be available for comment today. He is flying back from Florida. Nor is anything on the record expected from the Giants.

The two sides, sources say, were sitting down in the hearing room in Florida this morning when they agreed to step outside for more negotiations. After a little more than an hour, the deal was struck.

The arbitration panel would have decided whether Lincecum's 2010 salary is $13 million (the figure he submitted) or $8 million (the figure submitted by the Giants).

A major-league source told the Chronicle on Wednesday that the Giants had made a three-year, $37 million offer with annual salaries of $9.5 million, $12.5 million and $15 million, and that the Lincecum camp countered with a proposal north of $40 million.
